Welcome to Waggoner-Sauder Ranch

Nestled in the heart of North Texas plains, the Waggoner-Sauder Ranch is a sprawling 12,000-acre working cattle/horse ranch steeped in tradition and built on a legacy of hard work, dedication, and a deep respect for the land. Established over a century ago, the ranch continues to thrive as a beacon of sustainable agriculture and livestock management, combining time-honored practices with modern innovations.
A Legacy of Ranching Excellence
John Luther (“J. L.”) Waggoner, son of Wise County pioneer J. T. Waggoner, the first County Treasurer of Wise County, began acquiring the Ranch in 1917 by purchasing his first significant tract of land consisting of 1,470 acres just northeast of Decatur. J. L.’s love for the land was evident, as he continued to purchase various tracts in this immediate area until just months before his death in 1948.Following J. L.’s death, his wife, Marie Patterson Waggoner, daughter of Judge J. W. Patterson, the first County Judge of Wise County, and their daughter, Johnnie Marie Waggoner Sauder, with the assistance of many long-time ranch cowboys, ran the ranch until their deaths in 1989 and 2016, respectively. Members of the Sauder Family, along with Jim Bob Little, who has lived on the ranch for 40 years, actively manage this legacy ranch, portions being in the Family now over 100 years.

Sustainable Cattle Ranching Practices
Sustainability is at the core of our operations at Waggoner-Sauder Ranch. We believe that responsible ranching goes hand in hand with caring for the environment. Our cattle are raised on a rotational grazing system that allows pastures to rest and regenerate, promoting soil health and biodiversity. This method not only benefits the land but also results in high-quality, grass-fed beef that is both nutritious and delicious.
Our cattle herd, primarily composed of Angus and Hereford breeds, is carefully managed to ensure optimal health and welfare. We adhere to the highest standards of animal husbandry, providing our cattle with a stress-free environment and access to clean water and nutritious forage. This commitment to quality is evident in the superior beef products that Waggoner-Sauder Ranch is known for.
